As I was photographing water birds, a family of three deer crossed the swamp. The doe and yearling were following the buck as he was watching out for them.

It’s not clear exactly when this young buck will get the idea to leave his mother. Eventually the father will chase him away. Why is this young male still attached to his mother when others leave before their spots have even vanished?
