Antlers are growing bigger every day for the island’s male deer population, covered in a fuzzy velvet-like substance until it reaches maximun size, just about the time for the mating season in September. The velvet will peel off by August. The best time to photograph the boys in town are when they are in full velvet before the peel begins. This buck is about three-four years old.
The fawns always remind me of my colts when they would test their speed on long lanky legs, as this deer did on a grassy empty lot near No Name Key.
