Fading Spots, Horseshoe Crab and Birds

The spots the deer were born with for protection to blend in are disappearing as he gets older and larger and more independent. This fawn was alone, probably a male. Some male fawns stay with their mothers until after the spots have disappeared and little antler nubs begin to grow. Females are more prone to stay together as I have seen generations of does of all ages travelling as a group. I wonder what determines a young fawn to part ways and be alone and others to band together? ( I am almost certain this is the son of Thor, the same fawn I photographed on July 13).

The Horseshoe Crab is more related to spiders, scorpions, and tics than to crabs. They can live up to forty years and molt their shell up to 17 times before sexually maturing at age nine.
